With sweeping water views, a large north-facing beer garden and that classic Australian beach pub feel, it's the kind of place that's hard to leave. Built in the late 1960s, Salty Dog has been a fixture of the Kingston Beach community ever since.
We're open seven days for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and our two dedicated function spaces - the Restaurant and the Saloon Bar with beer garden - are available for private hire, or book the whole venue for something bigger. If you've got something in mind, our team would love to hear about it.
The Salty Dog Hotel started life as a beachside motel built in the late 1960s on the foreshore at Kingston Beach.
For decades it was a fixture of the local community - a casual spot on the water where locals gathered, families came for a feed, and the beach was always just out the front door.
The venue was brought back to life with a full refurbishment by designers Brustman and Boyde in collaboration with Pippa Dickson - honouring the building's bones while creating something the community could be proud of again. The original mid-century timber bar was retained, the structure stayed, and the colour palette and feel were drawn straight from the Kingston Beach foreshore. Today the Salty Dog is one of Southern Tasmania's best known dining and function venues, still at the same address, still looking out at the same stretch of beach.
